Welcome To Our New Student

We would like to welcome Donald to our class.  Donald was a former FLE student who left briefly and is now back.  We are thrilled to have him in our class.  I know that he will enjoy our class and being back at FLE.

Lion, Tigers, Bears, OH MY!!....no just turtles, snakes and alligators!!

On Friday we had a field trip with the FSGA Forestry Department.  This was a unique field trip as they came to us!  The gentlemen from the Forestry Division brought snakes, gopher turtles and an alligator.  We had presentations on the various habitats found in Georgia, adaptations of animals and plant life as well as endangered species found in Georgia.
We partnered with Mrs. Vaeth's class for the presentations. Mrs. Turner was asked to show the gopher tortoise to the classes.  As she brought around the gopher tortoise, we all had the chance to touch it.  The students were allowed to touch the alligator...don't worry, it's mouth was taped shut.  We think the alligator was having a good time because it looked like it was smiling!  Mrs. Howard and Mrs. Turner also had the opportunity to hold the alligator.   Mrs. Zeiglar, Mr. Carrier, and Mr. Wasdin came down to see the critters and as you can see from the photos, they also held the alligator.

Visit to the Science Lab

These are pictures from our visit to the FLE Science Lab. Mrs. Lukkarinen talked about the different animals and their habitats. Thanks Mrs. Lukkarinen!

Cooperative Learning

Students worked together to complete an assignment for Social Studies.  Students were in groups of three and they were each given two pieces of the puzzle.  The students had to "communicate" with each other without talking in order to put the puzzle together.  The students learned ALOT about non-verbal communication and working together.

Research has begun

Yesterday we formed our Social Studies research groups and began actively working on researching our countries. The countries we are researching are Germany, China, Argentina and Australia. Students read and highlighted information that had been downloaded from the internet. As they did this, they filled out a questionnaire about their country. Today they will either go to the media center, Mrs. Howard's room or stay in our room and they will begin "surfing" the net with a teacher to find additional information, maps, and pictures.
